Abstract

The research aim is to describe students’ self-regulated learning strategies to improve their speaking skill. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive. The population of the research is 60 students from seventh semester of English education study program of five private universities in Kota Banda Aceh namely; Bina Bangsa Getsempena University, Serambi Mekkah University, Muhammadiyah Aceh University, Abulyatama University, and Stkip An-nur Nanggroe Aceh. Since there are only 60 students as the population of this research, thus all students are taken as sample of this research and it is named total sampling. In collecting the data, the writer used questionnaire as instrument, and the questionnaire refers to list of statements in self-regulated learning strategies in speaking skills. As the result, the research finding shows that all of the students of five private universities use all the learning strategies which are metacognitive, resources management, cognitive and motivation, but the dominant strategy used by students is metacognitive strategies.
