Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out whether there is an increase in students' understanding of mathematical concepts using the PBL learning model. One of the goals of mathematics is the ability to explain the relationship between mathematical concepts. Therefore, understanding mathematical concepts is very important in the learning process. The choice of learning model determines the development of students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The PBL learning model is an appropriate alternative for students to develop their understanding of mathematical concepts. The PBL learning process is carried out by providing 3 descriptive test questions. This type of research is quantitative research. The population in this study was all class X students at Kota Bahagia State High School, consisting of 42 students. The instrument of this research is a test of understanding mathematical concepts in the form of a pretest-posttest in the form of essay questions. The data analysis technique used in this research is the t test. The results of the research state that the problem based learning (PBL) learning model with a scientific approach can improve the understanding of mathematical concepts of Kota Bahagia State High School students.
