Abstract

This study aims to determine the difficulties experienced by grade X-Social Studies students at SMA 1 Teupah Selatan in solving Ethnomathematics-based mathematics HOTS problems and find out how the difficulties experienced by grade X-Social Studies students at SMA 1 Teupah Selatan in solving Ethnomathematics-based mathematics HOTS problems. This study used qualitative research methods. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and documentation. The subjects in this study were class X-Social Studies students as many as 20 students who took the HOTS question test and 5 students from 20 students interviewed. Based on the results obtained that RR subjects fall into the category of high ability. SR subjects answer questions incorrectly and only a few steps, therefore SR subjects fall into the category of low ability. The subject AJ in the written test was erroneous and the subject AJ did not give a reason in making his conclusion, therefore the subject AJ fell into the category of moderate ability. The RR subject did not give a conclusion on questions number 1 and 2. And if one of the information in the question is omitted then the RR subject is unable to give a conclusion, then from that the RR subject falls into the category of medium ability. The AFS subject showed that in solving the problem less than perfectly, but in the written test there was an error at the stage of obtaining the final result for the value on the prism volume formula. The AFS subject also did not give his conclusions and the AFS subject did not give a conclusion on the problem, therefore the AFS subject falls into the category of moderate ability.
