Abstract

Students' critical thinking skills are still low, this is caused by students not being able to analyze and solve questions given by educators, and students tend to memorize material and formulas rather than understand a concept, students feel confused and do not understand the material being taught. The formulation of the problem in this study is, 'Is the application of the discovery learning learning model able to improve the critical thinking skills of students of SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh class Xl IPS at the limit of algebraic functions. This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills through the application of discovery learning learning models on the limit of algebraic functions. This study used a quantitative approach, and data collection techniques in this study used observation, pretest and posttest and questionnaires. Data analysis used to calculate the average value of the normality test, homogeneity test, one sample t test and take the hypothesis. The results showed that the application of discovery learning learning models can improve critical thinking skills. This can be seen in the results of the paired sample t test, the results of the test conducted in the experimental group. The value obtained is, |-7,494| > 2.093 t table and significance value (2-tailed), in table. The significance value (2-tailed) was 0.001 (p <0.05). And the value obtained in the control group, namely |-7,159| > 21.19 t table, significance value (2 tailed) in table. As well as the acquisition of critical thinking ability questionnaires in the control and experimental groups, namely, |62,29| > 2.028 t table and significance value (2 tailed) in the table. So it is concluded that the application of discovery learning learning models can improve students' critical thinking skills in the experimental group.
