Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of index card match (ICM) type active learning strategies with real-life contexts to improve student learning outcomes on derivative material in grade XI SMAN 1 Krueng Barona Jaya. The sample of this study was grade XI MIA 2 SMAN 1 Krueng Barona Jaya students with the number of students who were sampled in this study were 21 people consisting of 14 female students and 7 male students taken using purposive sampling techniques. The approach used in this study is a quantitative approach with the type of classroom action research (PTK) which is carried out in two cycles, each cycle consists of four stages, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques use observation, tests, and documentation. The learning outcomes of grade XI MIA 2 SMAN 1 Krueng Barona Jaya students in the pre-action were 48.57% with less category, and increased in cycle I with completeness scores reaching 65.75% with sufficient category. The increase in cycle II with a value of 82.25% in the good category, so that there is an increase in student learning outcomes in cycle I and student learning outcomes in cycle II with a significant increase. This research stopped in cycle II because success indicators had been achieved and it can be concluded that using an index card match (ICM) type active learning strategy with a real-life context can improve student learning outcomes on derivative material in grade XI SMAN 1 Krueng Barona Jaya.
