Abstract

The process of learning mathematics at SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh basically the teacher has implemented several learning models, but there are still students who are less focused when the teacher explains and are not active in the learning process so that student learning outcomes are still low. This study aims to determine the comparison of students' mathematics learning outcomes using the Group Investigation and Problem Based Learning learning models on the subject of class XI Arithmetic Sequences of SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh. This research is a comparative quantitative study with a quasi-experimental approach conducted at SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh in the even semester. The population in this study were all students of class XI SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh. The samples taken in this study were two classes, namely class XI IPA 1 as the control class which was taught using the Problem Based Learning learning model and class XI IPA 2 as the experimental class which was taught using the Group Investigation learning model, with each sample totaling 36 students in each class. The instruments used in this study were observations of teacher and student activities and tests (pretest – posttest) of mathematics learning outcomes on arithmetic sequences. Based on the results of data analysis using the t-test of two independent samples obtained t_count < t_(table) (1.431 < 2.009) at level α = 0.05 where t_count < t_(table) then H_0 is accepted and H_a is rejected, which means there is no significant difference to the learning outcomes conducted by researchers.
