Abstract

It is important for students to have mathematical communication skills, because as one of the capitals of student success in exploration and investigation as well as a forum for communicating with friends to get information. However, mathematical communication skills are still a problem at school, as happened at SMA Inshafuddin Banda Aceh. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students' mathematical communication through the use of cognitive conflict learning strategies for class X SMA Inshafuddin Banda Aceh. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR), the research subjects of class X IPS are 20. Data collection is done through tests, observations and documentation. The data collected was then analyzed using a percentage formula with an indicator of success, namely students' written mathematical communication at least in the good category of 75%. The results showed that the teaching and learning activities (KBM) in the first cycle were in the good category, increasing to very good in the second cycle. There was an increase in students' verbal mathematical communication skills from the fairly good category in the first cycle with an average score of 2.20 and increased to good in the second cycle with a score of 3.20. Completeness of students' mathematical communication skills in writing in the first cycle as many as 6 students or 60% with an average value of 63.34, increased to 16 students in the second cycle with the percentage of completeness reaching 80% with an average value of 78.34 while achieving success indicators set (≥ 75%). This study concludes that the mathematical communication skills of class X students of SMA Inshafuddin Banda Aceh can be improved through the use of cognitive conflict learning strategies.
