Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' creative thinking skills in solving algebraic calculations at SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh. In this study the method used is a qualitative research method. Data collection techniques in this study are using documentation techniques, interview tests. The subjects in this study were 3 students of class XI-1 SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh taken from 28 students. Determining the subject of this research is based on the results of interviews and test results of students' creative thinking skills. Creative Thinking ability of students is categorized into three types, namely high (T), medium (S), low (R). Based on this type, one student from each type was selected to be the subject of the study. Based on the results of the study, students' creative thinking abilities for high-ability subjects met three indicators of creative thinking skills, namely the 1st indicator of Fluency (Able to provide two correct and complete answers/ways to solve problems), the 2nd indicator of Flexibility (Able to give answers/ the method is not based on the concept that is given correctly and completely), the 3rd indicator is Novelty (Able to provide answers/own methods accurately and completely). Subjects with moderate ability fulfill two indicators of creative thinking ability, namely the 1st indicator of Fluency (Able to give two correct and complete answers/ways to solve problems), the 2nd indicator of Flexibility (Able to give answers/methods not based on the concepts given correctly and complete). Subjects with low abilities only meet one indicator, namely Fluency (Being able to provide two correct and complete answers/way in solving problems).
