Abstract

It is very important to pay attention to students' reading literacy so that the realization of reading comprehension in students. Paying attention to reading comprehension techniques will give birth to better reading quality for students. However, in reality, at SD Negeri Kajhu, especially in class V, there are still problems in terms of reading literacy. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on increasing the ability to read Science Literacy for fifth grade students of SD Negeri Kajhu Aceh Besar. This study uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design with a one-shot case study design. The population of this study was all students of class V totaled 27 students and the entire population was used as a research sample so that this study became a population study. Data collection is done through tests and documentation. The data collected were analyzed using statistical tests (t-test). The results showed that there was an increase in student learning outcomes, namely the average value before the application of the PBL model was 41.84 and increased to 77.65 after the PBL model was applied. This result is also strengthened by the results of hypothesis testing that tcount > ttable (7.33 > 1.67). This study concludes that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model can improve the science reading literacy of fifth graders at SD Negeri Kajhu Aceh Besar. It is recommended to use the PBL model as an effort to increase the reading literacy of elementary school students.
