Abstract

The literary psychology approach can provide an overview or explanation of the main character who experiences inner conflict caused by his trauma to the past in his family. Tere Liye's novel 'Pulang Go' is a psychological novel that describes the various inner conflicts of the main character contained in the novel. The psychological approach is used because the main character is related to the inner conflict and the behavior and psychological activities experienced. The purpose of this study is to describe and explain the inner conflict of the main character in Tere Liye's novel 'Pulang Go'. This type of research includes qualitative descriptive research. The data in this study are the setting and sentences and quotes in the novel 'Pulang Go' by Tere Liye. Data analysis is the process of sorting data into patterns, categories, and basic units of description, so that it can be formulated as a working hypothesis as suggested by the data. The results show that the inner conflict of the main character Bujang based on Maslow's theory arises because several aspects are not fulfilled, namely physiological needs, the need for security, the unfulfilled need for love and belonging, the unfulfilled need for esteem, and the unfulfilled need for self-actualization. The dominant conflict seen in this novel leads to violence or the mafia world involving the Bujang character that occurs in another country with a black widow opponent who has been trained and has many troops, Bujang's team is of course weak in terms of terrain, members and weapons. The inner conflict of Nina's character, which has been found in Pulang Go, is categorized based on the theory of basic human needs by Abraham Maslow. Based on the theory of basic needs, the researcher found that all components of needs including physiological, security, and self-esteem/esteem, the need for love/possession and the need for self-actualization (meta) of Singles were not met properly. This is what later became the biggest trigger for the inner conflict of the main character Bujang in Tere Liye's Pulang Go novel.
