Abstract

Discovery learning learning model can be used as an alternative in working on the material utilization of energy sources. With this discovery learning students learn to be more active, observe directly and find things around themselves and build their own knowledge by working together in a study group. The teacher presents some knowledge and then encourages groups of students to construct their own knowledge. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of discovery learning models can improve the cognitive abilities of fourth grade students at SD Negeri 15 Banda Aceh in the science subject of energy resource utilization. This research is classified as pre-experimental research with one group pre-test post-test research design, where there are pre-test questions before being given treatment and post-test questions after being given treatment using the discovery learning model. This study only has one experimental class without a control class. The conclusion of the research using the discovery model to improve students' cognitive abilities in science subjects for the use of energy sources for class IV SD Negeri 15 Banda Aceh, namely before the application of the Discovery Model the average value of students was low, namely 66 with 12 students or 54.54% 8 students did not complete or 44.45% of students passed the KKM score. After implementing the Discovery Model, the average score of students increased by 80. Total of 17 students or 77.27% of students had scores above 70 and as many as 5 or 23% of students still had scores below 70. fourth grade students of SD Negeri 15 Banda Aceh after being taught by applying the discovery learning model with N-Gain 58.15% with a fairly effective category
