Abstract

Recognizing geometric shapes in early childhood can be done with various approaches, one of
which is the scientific approach, which is one way of providing learning experiences by
giving children problems that are solved everyday in groups or individually. Early childhood
education must be integrated with the environment of children's lives that many face with
direct experience. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the scientific
learning approach to recognize geometric shapes in children aged 5-6 years at Ar-Risalah
Bilingual School Kindergarten Banda Aceh. The research method used is an experiment with
a one-group pre-test-post-test type of research. The sample in this study was group B TK ArRisalah Biligual Shcool with a total of 8 children. The instrument in this study is a test sheet
consisting of pre-test and post-test questions. The results of this study prove that early
childhood learning using a scientific approach is effective in improving the ability to
recognize geometric shapes of children in group B of Ar-Risalah Bilingual School Banda
Aceh. This is indicated by the value of tcount on the ability to recognize geometric shapes of
children 7.14 and table t at the significant level = 0.05 and dk = 7 obtained ttable = 3.79
because tcount meets the criteria tcount > ttable = 7.14 > 3, 79 then H0 is rejected and H0 is
accepted. This means that the scientific approach is effectively applied in learning to
recognize geometric shapes in early childhood at Ar-Risalah Bilingual School Kindergarten
