Abstract

The numeracy learning that has been carried out at the FKIP USK Kindergarten is taught using
conventional methods such as lectures and giving assignments and filling out LKA. While
learning to count is rarely used, collaboration between methods and media is not very interesting
for children. Therefore, the storytelling method was applied using pictorial box media in learning to
count. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using the storytelling method using
pictorial box media on the numeracy skills of group B TK FKIP USK Banda Aceh children. This
study uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design. The research subjects were
group B-5, which consisted of 12 children. Data was collected through tests that were assessed
through observation sheets. The instrument used in this data collection is an observation sheet.
Data were analyzed using statistics. The results showed: (1) Before the storytelling method using
picture box media was implemented, as many as 25% (3 children) had not yet developed their
numeracy aspects, 58.33% began to develop and as many as 16.67% developed as expected and
none of the children developed very well. good as found on initial observations. After the
storytelling method using picture box media was carried out, the number of children who began to
develop was 8.33), children who developed as expected were 58.33% (7 children) and children who
developed very well were 33.33%. (2) The storytelling method using pictorial box media affects the
numeracy ability of group B TK FKIP USK Banda Aceh children as evidenced by the results of
hypothesis testing, namely the t-count value is 13.33 while the t-table value is 1.80 (10.86> 1 ,80)
at a significant level of 5%.
