Abstract

Based on the observations of researchers at UKM Unsyiah, not all
athletes from UKM Muay Thai Unsyiah can do straight blows well
and quickly. There are still many who make punches that are
sometimes undirected and weak and do not hit the target. This
situation is caused by the lack of support from the physical ability of
athletes and lack of good mastery of punching techniques. In
addition, it was found that around 80% of beginners experienced
weakness when hitting straights, especially when performing straight
blows, which was caused by weak dumbbell weight training. This
study aims to determine the effect of dumbbell weight training on the
speed of straight blows in the athletes of UKM Muay Thai Unsyiah.
The research approach uses a quantitative using a correlational
design. The sample in this study was UKM Muay Thai Unsyiah
athletes, totaling 8 people consisting of 4 male athletes and 4 female
athletes. The instruments in this study were pretest and posttest. The
results indicated that from the rejection criteria Ho with a
significance level of = 0.05 and v = (n-1) and probability (1-α). from
the Student t distribution table obtained t-table = t((1-α, n-1) ) =
t((0.95)(7))=1.85, so t-score>t-table is 5.178>1.85, then Ho is rejected
and Ha accepted. which means that dumbbell weight training has an
effect on the speed of straight blows at UKM Muay Thai Unsyiah
athletes.
