Abstract

Muay Thai is one of the sports that will be included in the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) event,
with the implementation of social restrictions resulting in obstacles to training preparation. The
research formulation includes: (1) What are the obstacles to the implementation of the PON muay
thai aceh athlete training program during the covid-19 pandemic. This study aims: (1) to describe the
training barriers of Aceh Muay Thai PON Athletes during the Covid-19 Pandemic. This study uses a
qualitative approach with a descriptive type. The location of this research will be conducted at the
Muay Thai Nanggroe Club camp, Kuta Alam sub-district, Gampoeng Mulia. Data collection is done
by using the interview method. The research subjects were 10 people. The results of the study show:
(1) the changes shown are the reduction in the frequency of exercise which is included in the training
barrier, in the exercise that has an impact on the frequency of exercise, the athlete does not maximize
the exercise with a limited time. In fact, by reducing the frequency of exercise can reduce the
performance and physical condition of athletes. (2) the obstacles found in the field are the obstacles
in the implementation of monthly tryout activities, such as the tryout to Thailand which is scheduled
for June 2020 which is not carried out and the athlete fails to depart, this also has an impact on the
mentality of the athlete being disturbed by not being able to do trials with other athletes so that there
is no benchmark for the athletes of the aceh team to evaluate the extent to which the Aceh team's
abilities have been improved. The conclusions obtained are (1) obstacles during exercise during the
COVID-19 pandemic, namely the reduction in the frequency of the training load, both in terms of the
duration of the exercise and the training load with up and down intensity. (2) obstacles to the training
program during the pandemic, namely obstacles to the implementation of Try Out activities to
Thailand or trial matches with foreign athletes, so that it has an impact on the mentality of athletes
who cannot measure the athlete's abilities. It is suggested that the management of the Muay Thai
provincial government and coaches can follow up on alternatives and innovations in implementing
athlete training programs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
