Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' mathematical representation abilities through a TPACK-based scientific approach to material for geometric sequences in class XI MIPA 3 SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh using qualitative research methods. Students have difficulty interpreting mathematical ideas in the material that has been taught, understanding of the material and student focus are still lacking causing student representation not to develop in solving geometric sequence problems. Collection techniques, namely tests and interviews from valid data sources. The subjects in this study were students of class XI MIPA 3 with a total of 32 students. The determination of the object was carried out randomly with 1 student each for each indicator in terms of high, medium and low classification levels. The indicators of students' mathematical representation abilities that are used are making equations or mathematical models and writing steps to solve problems. Based on the results of the research that has been carried out, it is concluded that only 3.1% of students with a high classification level almost fulfill the 2 indicators in the 2 questions given, then 6.2% with a medium classification level, and 90.6% with a low classification level. In this case students are said to have been able to make equations and write down the steps for solving them. The biggest student difficulty lies in writing problem solving in their own language.
