Abstract

The problem that occurs in class XII IPS 1 SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh is that learning to analyze the structure and language of editorial texts is still carried out from source books available at school and can only be understood by a few students so that they cannot overcome difficulties in learning to analyze editorial texts. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation and success of applying the drill method in improving the ability to analyze the structure and language of editorial texts for class XII IPS 1 students of SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which consists of planning, action, observation and reflection. The research subjects were 27 students, the data was collected through test, observation and documentation techniques. The collected data were analyzed using a percentage formula described in simple sentences to describe the results of the study. The results showed that (1) there was an increase in the ability to analyze the structure and language of the students' editorial text as indicated by an increase in the pre-cycle average score of 63.37 to 75.26 in cycle I and in cycle II to 86.04. In addition to the average classical completeness score, it also increased, namely pre-cycle as much as 29.63%, increased to 59.26% in cycle I and in cycle II to 85.19% while achieving the specified success indicators. (2) Student activities in learning using the drill method in cycle I in learning to analyze the structure and language of editorial texts using the drill method are classified as sufficient with a score of 65.38. After going through various improvement efforts, student activity in cycle II increased to very good with a score of 94.23.
