Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the mathematical communication skills of students who took part in the Olympiad in solving trigonometry problems at SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh. Communication is a message or mandate from someone to people. This type of research is qualitative. Data collection techniques in this study were tests and interviews. The objects in this study were 3 Olympiad students taken from 13 people. Students' mathematical communication skills are categorized into 3 types, namely low, medium and high. Based on these types one student was selected from each type to be the object of the study. Based on the results of the study, mathematical communication skills in test item number 1 for low, medium and high objects fulfill the three indicators. Based on the results of the study, mathematical communication skills in test item number 2 for medium and high objects fulfill the three indicators of mathematical communication ability, while for low objects only fulfill the 1st indicator. Based on the results of the study, mathematical communication skills in test item number 3 for medium objects only meet the 1st and 3rd indicators, while for low objects they only fulfill the 1st indicator and for high objects they fulfill all three indicators.
