Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' mathematical connection skills in the material of Inverse Functions for class X MIPA-1 and X MIPA-2 at SMAN 2 Banda Aceh using qualitative research methods. Students have difficulty in understanding, solving problems, and are less skilled in operating problems on inverse functions. Data collection techniques are documentation, questionnaire methods, tests and interviews from valid data sources. The subjects in this study were students of class X MIPA program at SMAN 2 Banda Aceh which consisted of 2 classes, namely class X MIPA-1 and X MIPA-2 with a total number of 72 students. Determination of objects is done randomly with each class consisting of 3 students. The indicators of students' mathematical connection ability used are recognizing the connections of mathematical ideas, understanding mathematical relationships, and relating mathematical ideas to everyday life. Based on the results of the research that has been carried out, it is concluded that only one student meets the 3 indicators in the 5 questions given, then 1 student fulfills the three indicators in the 3 questions given, 1 student fulfills the three indicators in the 2 questions given and 3 the students fulfill the three indicators in 1 given question. In this case, students are said to have recognized the concept, understood it in several forms, and applied it in solving math problems. The students' greatest difficulty lies in the application of abstract concepts from the inverse function problem and there are errors in operating basic mathematical calculations and the time for working on the questions has run out.
