Abstrak

This study aimed to find out the listening strategies applied by students in learning listening skills at Islamic Senior High School Ruhul Falah. The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative research by using research instruments in the form of observations, interviews, and field notes. The participants in this study were 11 participants of third grade students of Islamic Senior High School Ruhul Falah and in choosing this sampling the researcher used a purposive sampling. The students were considered reliable as participants in this study because they had learned more complex listening skills compared to the first and second grades. Based on the research results of questioner, it is known that students asked to played the audio more than once, if they listen to vocabulary that is unfamiliar or doubtful, they wrote down and asked the teacher or friends for the vocabulary, both teacher and students provided feedback about learning listening skills they had, some of the media they used to practice their listening skill such as video, film, audio, and music. From the results of interviews with students, it was also obtained that students practiced their listening skill when they have free time and students wanted to master English because they wanted to implement the knowledge they learned in everyday life and based on this it is known that the listening strategies applied by students in learning listening skills at Islamic Senior High School are cognitive strategy and social-affective strategy.
