Abstract

The role and responsibility of health workers, especially nurses, to reduce the pain felt by children is to provide pain reduction techniques to children. Pain reduction techniques include two things, namely pharmacological and non-pharmacological. Distraction technique is a non-pharmacological method to relieve pain by diverting attention to other things so that children will forget the pain they are experiencing. Audio visual distraction technique is one of the most effective techniques to reduce pain problems in children. quantitative research, this research method used is a quasi-experimental design using a pre- and post-test without control (self-control) design. In this design, the researcher only intervened in one group without comparison with a sample of 92 people. The method of data collection used is by using a procedure sheet. The results of the normality test with Kolmogorov-Smirnov concluded that the p value before being given a distraction technique (ɑ > 0.000), and the p value after being given a distraction technique (ɑ > 0.000), it can be concluded that all variables are not normally distributed, so the test used is Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. the results of the Wilcoxon signed rank test before being given the distraction technique and after being given the distraction technique that Z count is -8.066a and significant is 0.000. this indicates that the significant value of 0.000 is less than 0.05 (error rate 5%). So it can be concluded that there is a decrease in the level of infusion pain in children from the results before being given distraction techniques and after being given distraction techniques. It is recommended that the results of this study can be used as information material for nurses, all staff and training at the General Hospital dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh to overcome or teach how to reduce pain in children during infusion so that nurses at the service area can maintain excellence, so that the quality of service is getting better.
