Hand washing is a process that mechanically removes dirt from the skin of the hands using plain soap and water. Hand sanitizer is one of the antiseptic ingredients in the form of a gel that is often used by the public as a practical handwashing medium. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using hand sanitizers and compliance with washing the hands of the patient's family during the COVID-19 pandemic at dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital, Aceh Province. This research method is descriptive correlation with cross-sectional approach. The number of respondents in this study is 77 while the statistical test uses Chi-Square. The results of this study indicate that in the variable of hand sanitizer use, most of the patient's family does not use hand sanitizer as many as 54 respondents (70.1%) and the Compliance variable for hand washing is mostly non-compliant as many as 56 respondents (72.7%), while in the The correlation found that there was a relationship between the use of hand sanitizer and hand washing compliance with a P-Value value of 0.02 a = <0.05 %. From the results of this study, it was concluded that the use of hand sanitizers and hand washing compliance were stated as Ha accepted and Ho rejected. It is suggested that this research can be used as input for the hospital to further educate how to wash hands not always with water or in the sink but with the use of hand sanitizers it can make it easier to wash.
